Israel has frozen it’s cooperation with UNESCO a day after the UN cultural agency adopted a draft resolution that Israel says denies Judaism’s connections to the religion’s holiest sites. The site is known as the Temple Mount to Jews and Haram al-Sharif to Muslims. UNESCO adopted a draft resolution that strongly condemned “the escalating Israeli aggression and illegal measures against the freedom of worship and Muslims’ access to the holy site in the occupied Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds. While acknowledging the “importance of the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls for the three monotheistic religions”, the document referred to the sacred hilltop only by it’s Islamic name “al-Aqsa Mosque/al-Haram al-Sharif” (meaningNoble Sanctuary).
